There are few things that brighten up a boaters day as much as the calendar and weatherperson reminding us that the boating season is approaching and it's time to start thinking about commissioning the boat for the upcoming season. This is a starter list of tasks to think about. All boats are different and it's likely that some things on this list may not apply to you and there may additional tasks that your boat requires. Thanks to Mike Rennie for compiling the original list. If you have additional tasks that you would like to contribute to this list please send them to the webmaster.

  1. Wash and wax the full
  2. Apply anti-fouling paint
  3. Clean off the prop/driveshaft
  4. Replace the anode if its badly pitted (usually every year, magnesium works best for Lake Ontario
  5. Re-install any thru-hull items like knot meter sensor if it can be done safely (Some sensors can only be installed after launch or you risk damage from the travel lift straps)
  6. Check the raw water impeller and replace if necessary
  7. Start the engine (to flush anti-freeze and confirm that it will start).
  8. Remember to then reinstall the raw water hose.
  9. Examine your mast and identify any work that may need to be done.
