To All Junior Sail, Race Team and FBYC Members, _ START WINNING - USING ANALYTICS FIRST!_ Did you know that there are _12 CRITICAL MINUTES TO ANY RACE?_ From _10 minutes before the race starts, to two minutes into the race,_ these important 12 minutes determine how you will round the top mark and ultimately how you're likely to finish in the race. Collected statistical data is shown to improve how athletes look at their performances, and can allow athletes to find their weak points and then develop a plan to shore them up. We are excited to be able to offer you the chance to see OLYMPIC SAILOR CHRIS COOK speak to us about the proven science behind using analytics for developing sailing ability. During the evening of FRIDAY NOVEMBER 9 FROM 7:30-9:00 PM , Chris will lay out a starting point that has led to excellence in the sport. He will walk us through how and why sailing is overcomplicated by the Gurus and will take a step by step look at the three elements of the start of every sailboat race which lead to good or bad results. Chris has a very impressive sailing resume. He grew up locally, and although he primarily sailed out of Whitby, he spent many hours here at FBYC as well. Chris has coached Sail Canada’s Laser Radial and Finn teams, managed the Sail Canada Development team, and mentored countless young sailors throughout his career. His notable achievements include (but are not limited to); First place at six (6) North American Championships (2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2009) Five top ten finishes at the Open Finn Gold Cup (2001, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008) Canadian Yachting Association Male Athlete of the Year (2001) 2nd at the Canadian Olympic Trials for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens World Ranking of 2nd in the Finn Class (2005) Canadian Rolex Sailor of the Year (2005) Fifth at the 2008 Beijing Olympics Chris currently resides in Toronto, focusing on his real estate career and young family. He remains very committed to encouraging young sailors to achieve their goals. As such, he established the Real Athlete Real Estate Program, which gives back to the sailing community. Normally, Chris Cook’s fee for such events is $1,000. _I'M HAPPY TO SAY THAT CHRIS HAS GENEROUSLY AGREED TO SPEAK TO OUR CLUB ON A VOLUNTARY BASIS; HE SIMPLY ASKS THAT WE REQUEST A MINIMUM $10 PER PERSON ADMISSION FEE, WHICH WILL BE DONATED BACK 100% TO THE RADIAL LASER RACE TEAM_. While the target audience will be our junior sailors and race team, we would like to extend the opportunity to all interested parents and FBYC members. There will be a brief question and answer period following Chris’ talk. Please come out and support our young sailors, and take advantage of this fantastic learning opportunity. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact John Fertile, Sailing School Director Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you on the 9th!
